Another interesting event is the turban tying competition. The competitors do get competitive and creative with their colourful turbans so expect the strangest shapes here. Though intended as fun events, they have a traditional connection as turbans and moustaches are considered symbols of honour in the region. Foreigners love these competitions and some even pose for pictures with the winners.
A unique event you will rarely catch elsewhere is the camel polo and camel dance. It is quite an alternative experience to see riders stooping down to hit tiny balls from the height of the tall lanky animals. The camel dance is extremely entertaining as the animals sway to the beats of music on the orders of their riders. It is surprising how well trained they are.
